The intervention proposal for the Green Corridor of Campanhã, also known as the Alameda de Cartes Park, goes far beyond a mere transportation route. It is an ecological artery that integrates and transforms the urban landscape, promoting a healthy and sustainable environment for the community. This corridor links the Bairro do Falcão, Bairro do Cerco, and Bairro do Lagarteiro neighborhoods, which until recently were isolated, facilitating mobility and fostering social cohesion.
Moreover, the corridor serves as a connection between the Horta da Oliveira, a community cultivation and social space, and the Campo Municipal de Campanhã, an important location for sports and leisure activities. The project is a result of collaboration between the Porto City Council, Domus Social, the Faculty of Sciences at the University of Porto (FCUP), the Biodiversity and Genetic Resources Research Centre (BIOPOLIS/CIBIO), and the Centre for Social Studies at the University of Coimbra.
Funded by the Horizon 2020 program of the European Commission - URBiNAT, this project reflects an active commitment to sustainable urban regeneration, incorporating native trees, gardens, and green spaces carefully integrated into the urban environment, improving air quality, reducing noise pollution, and promoting local biodiversity. The “Green Corridor” is a vital infrastructure for the mobility and quality of life of the residents, symbolizing the transformation and revitalization of urban space in Campanhã.
